Days 8 & 9 - Oct. 8 & 9, Bozeman, MT to Rapid City, SD
Updated: Oct 13
I left Bozeman very early so that I could get to Billings in time to get my headlight fixed. The mechanic in Tacoma failed to reattach the connection, so I’ve been driving with one headlight. It was a simple fix, but somehow they managed to find a much more expensive problem under the vehicle. I suspect I’m the epidemy of the little old lady sucker. Better safe than sorry, I let them fix it. Er better behave from now on! Did I explain Er? As in Me and Er (Meander). I can’t pass up a good pun!
It was after 2 PM when I left Billings and having gotten on the road before dawn, I felt the need for a wee little nap. When I saw a sign for a historical site, I exited and took the first restful looking place I saw. A sweet little park. After a nap, I got out my art supplies and attempted a watercolor with my airbrush paints. It was so hot and dry, it was hard to get anything to flow, but it is what it is.

I felt safe there, so I decided to spend the night and batten down the hatches. I was not disturbed once other that occasional trains vibrating through me. I fell asleep before 7 PM so I woke up at 3 AM thinking I should plan my next destination.
I had hoped to visit Standing Rock Reservation, because I admired their Water Protectors several years ago, but had never received any responses to my inquiries. So, I searched Powwows. There was nothing this weekend on Standing Rock, but there is Black Hills Powwow (He Sapa Wacipi Na Oskate) in Rapid City near Mt. Rushmore.
Since I had not gone far the day before, it was not much to change directions. I got a little more sleep, then started on the 5+ hour drive. I stopped 4 times to rest, and the last on was in Broadus, MT next to Pocket Park which had to large-scale chess board.
I’m staying at Blackhawk RV Park about 8 miles west of Rapid City. I spent the rest of the day resting and will go to the Powwow (Wacipi) tomorrow.

OK, now keep it going girl......
